CHILLED WINES

#1  Valle Girl Vino La Chula Blanc de Noir 2018

Winemaker Sitara Perez creates a variety of wines under the label La Chula to honor all of our female friends. Some are sweet and some are sassy but all are beautiful in their own way. When white grapes became scarce during our 2018 Baja harvest due to drought, Sitara uncovered a French method for making white wine from red grapes and decided to take the dare.

Tasting Notes: Guava, mango, strawberry

Pairing Notes: Day drinking, afternoon drinking, night drinking, this wine is perfect anytime. Remember, it’s always noon somewhere!

Location: Valle de Guadalupe, Baja México
Varietal: Grenache
Winemaker: Sitara Perez

#2  Edetària Via Terra Rosé de Garnacha 2018

This wine is made with Terra Alta’s indigenous grape Garnacha Peluda from Edetària’s youngest vineyards located in la Plana de Gandesa. The grapes are handpicked and cooled for 48 hours, followed by a soft destemming, then skin contact is allowed at 5ºC for a few hours to obtain the subtle salmon color of the wine. Once fermentation is over, the wine works with fine lees to achieve elegant creaminess.

Tasting Notes: Cranberry, mineral, herbs

Pairing Notes: Garnacha pairs well with aromatic spices and juicy tomatoes, red peppers, and eggplant. Sounds like a great basis for a Moroccan or Middle Eastern feast!

Location: Terra Alta, Spain
Varietal: Garnacha Peluda
Winemaker: Edetària

#3 Canihan Family Cellars Chardonnay 2018

The Canihan Family uses winemaking techniques that are influenced by classic European traditions: hand-sorting their grapes before they enter the de-stemmer and then sorting them again afterward. Rather than large tank fermentations, they utilize numerous, small hand-mixed fermentations in order to draw out the best from each vineyard block and to enhance the nuanced layers of the final blend.

Tasting Notes: Pineapple, green apple, melon

Pairing Notes: Pair this Chardonnay with planning your next tropical vacation and online shopping for that perfect bathing suit.

Location: Sonoma Valley, California
Varietal: Chardonnay
Winemaker: The Canihan Family

#4 Fableist Pinot Noir 2018

The Fableist is a collaboration between winemakers Curt Schalchlin and Andrew Jones. Curt is the owner and vintner of the heralded winery Sans Liege. Andrew, the winemaker of Field Recordings, spends his days planning and planting vineyards and has stood foot in just about every vineyard on the Central Coast.

Tasting Notes: Cranberry, clove, earth

Pairing Notes: Based on Aesop’s fable “The Spider and the Fly” this wine pairs perfectly with lessons learned and introspection. Heavier than your average Pinot, makes it that much more unique!

Location: Central Coast, California
Varietal: Pinot Noir
Winemaker: Andrew Jones and Curt Schalchlin

RED WINES

This vertical flight consists of 4 Tempranillo wines, all made by Carlos Serres in Rioja, Spain. This experience highlights the difference time makes on wines. The soul of Carlos Serres wines is in their vineyard: Finca El Estanque. Covering 60 hectares in south-eastern Haro, it became a true landmark when espalier training was implemented in the early 1980s. In a style that blends the centuries-old history of the region with contemporary design, the winery preserves the historical and traditional heritage of its founders.

#1 Carlos Serres Old Vine Tempranillo 2017

Carlos Serres was a pioneer in Rioja. In 1896 he established one of the first wineries in Haro, the heart of Rioja, and was instrumental in promoting the early exports of the area. Today, the Bodega remains family-owned and operated and is one of only a few centenarian producers in Rioja.

Tasting Notes: Oak, vanilla, dark red berries

Pairing Notes: Perfect char marks on a hefty steak, a sturdy glass full of this dark red Tempranillo, and a deep sense of contentment.

Location: Rioja, Spain
Varietal: Tempranillo
Winemaker: Carlos Serres

#2 Carlos Serres Rioja Crianza Tempranillo 2015

This “Crianza” Tempranillo is a younger-style Spanish wine, which is medium in body and displays fresh fruit flavors that makes them a delight to drink on their own or as an extremely versatile pairing with food. Invite your friends over for a Mediterranean feast and let the Crianza flow!

Tasting Notes: Cherry, spice, licorice

Pairing Notes: Break out the special paella pan and achieve your best flame-kissed rice.
